We specialise in delivering strategic engagement and consultation programmes focused on shaping better places across the UK. Working primarily in the built environment, infrastructure, housing, and public sectors, we help our clients navigate complex policy landscapes and connect meaningfully with communities and stakeholders to bring forward projects and developments that make a difference to local places and economies.

The Role

In response to growing demand, we are seeking an experienced and well-connected individual to join us as an Account Director or Senior Account Director (depending on experience) to lead and expand our national consultation and engagement offering. This senior role will shape and drive our growth strategies, build and strengthen client relationships, and continue to expand our influence in our key sectors.

You will be responsible for leading high-profile consultation and engagement projects, advising clients on engagement strategies, and strengthening Social’s position as a national leader in delivering place-based consultation and engagement. With a strong understanding of the local government landscape, including devolution progress, and evolving national planning and infrastructure policy, you will help our clients navigate the challenges and opportunities these changes bring. Your work will align with Social’s commitment to fostering genuine engagement and ensuring diverse voices are heard in the consultation process.

This role is based within Social’s Leeds team, but will work on projects nationally and in close collaboration with our Managing Director and the Directors of our Manchester and London offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow and innovate our place consultation and engagement services across the UK, focusing on the built environment, infrastructure, housing and public sectors.
  • Develop and execute strategic consultation campaigns and projects for clients across these sectors, including senior oversight of third party suppliers and cost control to deliver maximum return on investment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, including local and combined authorities, developers, infrastructure providers, and policymakers.
  • Provide expert advice on community engagement, stakeholder management, and policy implications for development and infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor and interpret policy changes, advising clients on their impact and shaping effective communication strategies.
  • Represent Social at industry events, contributing to thought leadership in the sector.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive business growth and deliver high-quality consultancy services.
  • Member of the Leeds office senior management team, supporting the growth and development of the Leeds office alongside the growth of our consultation and engagement services.

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience of delivering consultation and engagement projects within the property, infrastructure and place.
  • Strong industry networks, with established relationships across local government, the built environment, infrastructure providers, housing, and key public sector and industry stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the impact of local government, regulatory changes, and evolving national policy on these sectors.
  • Proven track record of leading successful consultation projects and advising senior clients, underpinned by exceptional project management and delegation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels and build productive working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Strategic mindset with commercial awareness and business development experience and a strong motivation to contribute to business growth.
  • Good experience of leading and motivating teams to deliver outstanding results for internal or external clients.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive benefits package including 30 days’ paid annual leave, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, and a new business bonus scheme.
  • Flexible working arrangements, with a base in Leeds.
